If your argument is that the Government, or being rich, etc. is the way power is obtained, it all comes back to changing the lives of others. The Government makes laws that directly affect people's lives, the rich can donate to charities that will change people’s lives. I believe that changing people’s lives is the main definition or point of power. Some Examples of people who influenced the world, are people like Mother Teresa, Ghandi, Queen Elizabeth II, Oprah, Martin Luther King Jr., Ellen DeGeneres, Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, Rosa Parks, Princess Diana, Harriet Tubman, doctors, military, and Teachers. Take Mother Teresa for instance... Mother Teresa, influenced the lives of others by devoting her life to serving the poor and destitute around the world. Oprah, she is a celebrity so people listen to her, she can influence the public’s view on many controversial topics. Katherine Johnson was one of the first 3 black women to attend West Virginia University, and helped calculate many space flights for NASA. Doctors in this day cure and save peoples lives. In fact, they are the hero's in many people's lives. Rosa parks Influenced the fight for Civil Rights and equality for all. Even though these are some examples of people who gained power by influencing others lives, for good, there are people who change people’s lives for the worse. Such as Hitler, Karl Marx, Idi Amin Dada, Ivan the Terrible, Josef Stalin, Jack the Ripper, Osama Bin Laden, Kim Jong-Un, Mao Zedong, Albert Fish, and Lee Harvey Oswald. We asked a Senior what their definition of power was and they said, “Power is the ability to control and guide a group of people.” When we asked her why that was her definition of power she said “ Because, you can’t be powerful if no one has respect, and you need to have influence over people. You can’t be powerful if no one respects you or fears you.” Influencing people’s lives is the best way to gain power. By influencing them you are encouraging them. Whether it is good or bad. If you encourage them in a good way they will gain your trust and strive to do good. So If your argument is that the Government, or being rich, etc. is the way power is obtained, it all comes back to changing the lives of others.
